"Williams" Pear Eau de Vie (Schnapps), 42% alc/vol, 500mL

 It is difficult to convey the significance and symbolism of this spirit for the family and the distillery – just ask a Scot what Whisky means to them; it’ll probably end in a fight, but you get the idea.

The tradition that is Poire Williams runs deep through much of the Alpine Regions of Europe - the locals are likely to ask you first for a nip of your Williams, then maybe give you the time of day. So it’s far from surprising that distilleries in our first home pride themselves in the quality of their Williams Eau de Vie. 

Pear Williams Schnapps tests the distillers mettle; mistakes are easily discerned and cannot be hidden, as are some very tempting short cuts. But do it right, and there is still no guarantee of success, the only certainty is that you will follow an almost ludicrously time consuming process, that when complete only gains a mere three litres of distillate from every 100 kg of pears.  

Our own Williams journey starts from the distinct Hawke's Bay terroir with tree ripened pears left to mature specifically for us. We take it one step further by using only BIO-GRO NZ certified organic fruit. Taken to the peak of ripeness, these gifts of nature are cleaned, hand sorted and allowed to ferment, before the distiller finally captures their essence.

It is with considerable pride that we can offer a truly exceptional antipodean Pear Williams, one that has found a home in some of the finest bar’s, restaurants and clubs in Australia and New Zealand. We would be delighted if it found one in yours.

Tasting notes: Classic Williams (Bartlett) Pear – Poire Williams – the most famous of fruit Eaux de Vie, clean, aromatic and distinct, the essence of the fruit from which it came. Shows great intensity. Complex, rounded finish with just a touch of heat. Very elegant on the palate.

We label them accordingly, tracing each bottle number by hand, so that you can have the utmost confidence in their quality by the time you sit back to enjoy them.

We wouldn't expect you to cut corners, and you'll not see us doing so with our super premium Eau de Vie.
