Feijoas! Hard wired into the Kiwi psyche! For many of us just mentioning this strange green fruit evokes a flood of memories, of good times growing up in Godzone - feijoa fights, feijoa jelly, feijoa pie, pinching feijoas from the neighbours..... The totally unique taste and aroma of freshly cut feijoas has made feijoa fanatics of many. Being enthusiastically fanatical feijoa fans as well, made justifying years to perfect our 8thTRIBE Feijoa surprisingly easy.

If you’re still reading and you’re just wondering what the heck we’re on about!? :) ... Feijoa (pronounced FEE-jo-ah in NZ) is a fruit that originated in parts of South America that some German bloke discovered and named a long time ago. For some unknown reason Feijoas have been adopted as a backyard favourite by many Kiwis and Aussies; probably because the shrub tolerates almost anything, including most well-meaning chainsaw gardeners. Love them or hate them (one tends to do just that), it’s a flavour and texture that defies easy description. You’ll find a great take on them here “Strange Fruit: The Flavour and Fragrance of Feijoa”, though if you have never tried a Feijoa it may leave you none the wiser. Curious? Try 8thTRIBE Feijoa!
